Zero GPS or environmental-sensor data doesn't mean zero data — the voice-observation pipeline worked normally and captured a real hike. 19 observations were logged between 5:45 AM and 8:28 AM MST, roughly 2 hours 43 minutes, opening with "hiking trail tortellita preserve perimeter Trail" and closing with "end of hike" — this was a loop or out-and-back on the Tortolita Preserve perimeter trail.

The pace check-ins tell their own small story: at the first-third mark (~6:50 AM) it was already running "a little slow," and by roughly halfway (~7:25 AM) about 10 minutes behind — attributed directly to stopping for photos along the way, which the observation content backs up. An early start for late-July Arizona heat, and the numbers suggest a deliberately unhurried pace rather than a fast push.

Naturalist notes carried most of the narrative weight today. A Roadrunner made an appearance early on, memorably uncooperative for photos ("always keep something between my eyesight and him like a bush"). Harvester ants came up twice — once investigating what they were collecting near a Palo Verde tree, later watching them work the trail itself, moving through leaf litter. Vegetation notes ranged from a pincushion cactus in both flower and fruit to a Queen of the Night — a notable find, since that species only blooms at night and is easy to miss entirely. A recurring landmark, "the bone place" along the northern stretch, was checked again today (now four cow bones, implying this is a spot being tracked across multiple hikes rather than a one-off observation). One note tied recent rain directly to a burst of new grass growth — a real seasonal signal, not just a passing comment.
